Which Boston Moving Companies Are Reliable?

If you’ve spent some time trying to find a moving company, you’re probably overwhelmed with the amount of choices there are. A quick search for Boston Moving Companies on Google will yield thousands of web pages. A search on Craigslist will give you dozens of companies or independent moving contractors. Even looking through the Yellow Pages will give you an overwhelming number of moving companies. There is certainly no shortage of companies to reach out to, but how can you know which companies are actually reliable? There are a few trusted resources out there that can really help you connect with a dependable company.

1. Better Business Bureau

Believe it or not, there are ‘companies’ out there who will operate under one name until it’s reputation has been diminished, and then continue operations under a new company name. One way that you can know that a company is not doing this is by checking with the Better Business Bureau (Link to BBB Directory).

While new companies are indeed born every day, we consider it a red flag if a company is not listed with the BBB at all. If a company is willing to commit to their name with the Better Business Bureau, it shows that they are serious about their business, and that they are’t hiding anything.

Even if you speak with a company who doesn’t have the highest rating with the Better Business Bureau, you will be able to see any open complaints and how the company handles them. Knowing this information in advance can be a life saver.

2. Review Sites (Yelp, Angie’s List, Google, etc.)

There are many sites out there today that are dedicated to sharing the customer experience. One of the best ways to get to know a company is to see what other people have to say about them after hiring them.

One thing to consider for review sites is the credibility of the review. There are some sites where it might be possible for anyone to pose as a customer and write a review (to boost their own reputation, or perhaps to tarnish a competitor’s reputation). Yelp uses a review filter to help keep things honest on the site, although it has a tendency to filter out some portion of legitimate reviews. Angie’s List members subscribe to the service, which helps to uphold a sense of their legitimacy.

3. Customer Referrals and Testimonials

This goes back to the same principle as the review sites. Listening to what past customers have to say about the company is a great benchmark for finding the true customer experience. Don’t hesitate to ask your movers (or any other company that you are considering hiring) for a list of references. Most companies will be happy to help connect you with a few people who have used the service in the past.
